IDT yesterday and today
1921
1921
IDT Biologika has its origin in the Bacteriological Institute of the Anhaltian Administrative Areas and was founded in 1921 in Dessau. Commercial production began in 1925 with the manufacture of vaccines against swine erysipelas.
1930
1930
The founding of the Anhaltian Serum Institute of Dessau (ASID) in 1930 resulted from the growing responsibilities associated with the industrial production of sera for passive immunization of humans and animals.
1945
1945
In the years immediately following the Second World War, the manufacture of vaccines and diagnostics for combating epidemics stood at the forefront for the Vaccine Research Institute.
1960
1960
From the mid 1960's, state programs for the prevention and combating of animal epidemics and diseases associated with animal breeding determined the strategic directions in research and production. With the development of live bacterial vaccines on the basis of genetically stable mutants capable of reproducing, modern vaccines that could be used in the context of complex immunization programs were made available.
1980
1980
The manufacture of human vaccines was spun off in the 1980's due to the tremendously increased demands made on the production capacities. To reflect its growing importance, the business was renamed VEB Impfstoffwerk Dessau-Tornau.
1990
1990
The company which was owned by the people until 1990 came under a trusteeship from 1990 to 1993 and was privatized by the businessman Hartmut Klocke in 1993. Under the name Impfstoffwerk Dessau-Tornau (IDT), research and manufacture of biologics for farm animals and companion animals became the business focus. In parallel, the contract manufacturing of vaccines and pharmaceuticals began in separate production facilities.
Today
Today
Extensive investments were made in recent years to expand the research and production capacities at the Dessau site. With the opening of the new production building in May 2007, the capacity for manufacturing vaccines was once again effectively increased. In order to reflect the company's broad biotechnological orientation, the name Impfstoffwerk Dessau-Tornau was changed to IDT Biologika in October 2007. Today IDT markets more than 50 of its own veterinary medicinal products which are developed and manufactured on the basis of the most modern biotechnology.
